Abstract

Authors´ conclusions: in children diagnosed with cancer who live in areas where poverty has persisted for more than 30 years for over 20% of the population, an increased risk of mortality is observed.

Reviewers´ commentary: the study was conducted in a very large population in the USA, where living in a neighborhood with persistent poverty was associated with an approximately 15% increased adjusted risk of cancer-related mortality (26% for early death). It highlights the importance of social determinants of health in pediatric cancer outcomes.
