Abstract

Authors´ conclusions: single-dose steroid treatment is effective for ileocolic intussusceptions presenting within 24 h. Steroid treatment may also be considered for unresolved ileoileal intussusception cases after initial four-hour follow-up.

Reviewers´ commentary: treatment of intussusception with less than 24 hours of evolution with a dose of intravenous corticosteroids appears to be effective when compared to observation for 4 hours, especially in ileocecal localization. However, given the methodological deficiencies of this paper, more studies would be needed to adopt this practice systematically.
