Abstract

Authors' conclusions: passive exposure to tobacco smoke is an important cause of hospital admission due to asthma. Salivary cotinine levels are a sensitive and specific way of detecting this exposure.

Reviewers' commentary: this study demonstrates the important impact of passive exposure to tobacco smoke in subsequent hospital admissions due to asthma in children.
