Abstract

Authors ́ conclusions: children, adolescents, and young adults with positive pancreatic autoantibodies are at increased risk of developing type 1 diabetes, with the risk being higher in those under 20 years of age and/or those with multiple positive autoantibodies. This supports their inclusion in screening strategies for people at risk of developing this disease.

Reviewers ́ commentary: positive diabetes autoimmunity is an early marker for future development of the disease. Early detection in at-risk populations reduces complications at diagnosis.
