Abstract

Authors´ conclusions: positive results in controlled challenge tests for suspected beta-lactam allergy are infrequent and are associated with a history of other drug allergies and index reactions that were severe, immediate, and/or required adrenaline.

Reviewers´ commentary: controlled challenge tests remain necessary to safely rule out beta-lactam allergy, as there is no robust evidence of the usefulness of valid predictive risk factors to define low-risk populations for positive tests.
